Knitting is with 2 needles. There are knitting machines.
I an unsure about other needle arts, but crochet [so far] can be done Only by the human hand. Isn't that cool?
We say «work» a piece of knitting, or «work» a piece of crochet.
You say «knit» a piece of knitting, or «knit» a piece of crochet.
Here people get VERY upset if I say they knit something when they used a hook to make the item. If a person is an expert in using Crochet hooks they Do Not want to «accused» of having used knitting needles. (Unless they are good at both.) But I Must be CORRECT if I say something like «I like that knitted item.» It had better have been worked using needles or I will get a frown
